Enterprise Wireless Network
Need: A secure
wireless infrastructure in the Administration building
for the City of Houston Airport System and the “Disaster
Room” in a Terminal.
Challenge:The
scope of
the wireless
network by
airport personnel
and disaster
recovery
teams was
immense. It
would have
to provide
service to
employees
in the administration
building
as well as
large numbers
of disaster
team members
in the time
of a crisis.
The focus
was on three
main requirements:
- Centralized
security
and
management
- Fast
and
easy
scalability
- Affordability,
in
terms
of
total cost
of ownership
and
value
Requirement:
- Centralized
RF Management
and troubleshooting
- Simple
partitioning
of the WLAN
- Plug
and play
installation
and automatic
configuration
- Secure
authentication
and access
controls
Benefits: After
considering
all the issues
and requirements
the system
chosen was
a centralized
WLAN switching
and security
system. By
using this
system they
were able
to centralize
all security
and RF controls,
have the most
advanced wireless
security available
today and
required less
equipment
and configuration
time than
alternative
solutions.
The centralized
wireless system
delivered
lowered the
cost of ownership
and simplified
management.
It also allowed
administrators
to provide
remote troubleshooting
and an integrated
firewall enabled
differentiated
user access.
